Professional Services
In addition to writing my own work, I enjoy helping other writers strive for their own dreams—even when those sometimes appear impossible!
Speaking Engagements
I’m a widely known speaker at writing and genre events ranging from the Bay Area Writers’ League to the World Fantasy and World Science Fiction conventions, and the Odyssey Speculative Fiction Workshop, not to mention regional gatherings like Boskone, Readercon, the New Hampshire Youth Writing Conference, and the New Hampshire Writer’s Project 603 Conference. Topics include: “Ten Mistakes I’ve Made in my Writing Career so That You Don’t Have to,” “Breathless: Pacing the Novel,” and “So You want to Write Novel” (multi-part workshop, for teens or adults) One hour workshops begin at $150, plus travel if needed. Please let me know what your event is looking for, and I can get you a quote.
Editorial Services
Need some one-on-one attention? I’m a trained and experienced critiquer and developmental editor who will study your manuscript and work to help it reach its greatest potential with feedback on the elements of fiction and how they’re working (and could be working better). Editorial packages include an edit letter of 7-10 pages, chapter or section remarks, and marginal notes. Editorial services begin at $2000 for a manuscript of about 100K words.
Read What My Clients Have to Say
"I hired Elaine to provide developmental insight and editing on my most recent work-in-progress, and received intricate, thoughtful and educational feedback that applied not only to the story itself, but to writing generally. Her seasoned approach to examining each scene and the characters was invaluable in opening new doors and pathways in my creativity so I could re-think own tale. Sometimes, it felt like she knew where I wanted to go -- before I even got there! I can't recommend her highly enough when you're truly ready to be edited."
Randee Dawn
/ Author of Tune in Tomorrow, forthcoming from Solaris Books, August 2022"Wow. I appreciate the level of detail, professionalism and honesty you put into your critique. I admit I was very nervous when I opened the "big envelope", but nothing you said had a negative effect on me. In fact, I feel more energized than before. You very diplomatically pointed out my strengths and weaknesses, which I appreciate. You confirmed some things others have said, you brought up a lot of things no one questioned, and gave me a few smiley faces - which didn't hurt either."
